Partner: Alex McKinnon, 24 (former professional rugby league footballer, whose career was cut short by a spinal injury in 2014).

Profession: Primary school teacher.

How did you meet? We met in 2010 at Denman's Bottom Pub. It was my friends birthday, she was daring Alex's friend and Alex tagged along. He drove me home that night and we had our first kiss, but nothing else. We were friends for a year before we started dating.

Who inspires you? My Mum and Nan, they are both very strong women, family-orientated and always know the answers.

What do you do for work? I am a Year 1 teacher at a Catholic school in Newcastle to 29 little cherubs.

How do you keep fit? Alex chooses our meal plan each week. I do personal training three times a week and I play with our dogs Hank and Bail.

Ultimate workout? I love boxing.

Fave beauty product? Tinted moisturiser.

Everyday essentials? Phone, paw paw cream, denim shorts and a bottle of water.

Describe your style. Simple, fun, chic.

Advice to your younger self? Be true to yourself, don't worry about what others think.

Bucket list? To travel to America, go sky diving, swim with the sharks and get married.

Quote that you live by? Take it in your stride.

Fave brands/designers? Assembly, Bec and Bridge, Bassike.

What don't we know about you/Alex? Alex is obsessed with Keeping up with the Kardashians especially Kylie Jenner. I have knocked out my front teeth twice.

Alex's worst habit? Chewing gum like a cow.

His best qualities? He's determined and cares about others.

What is Alex's role at the Knights? His role is recruitment - he scouts players for the 15s and 20s teams.

And outside of the Knights? He's started his high-school teaching degree in history and math. He does rehab three times a week and we've almost finished building our dream home.

How is Alex's recovery going? It has been really good. Alex's standing is improving, he's starting to initiate his own steps when gait training in a forearm walker.

What do you do for fun? We watch a lot of Law and Order SVU and we take our dogs for a walk.

Healthy tip? Drink lots of water.

Greatest achievement? Graduating my teaching degree this year.

Greatest indulgence? TV series - if I could watch TV all day on the lounge, I would be one very happy lady.

Hobbies/interests? Netball, shopping, fitness, travel and food.

What do you miss about NRL? I miss the community and always having people around.

What don't you miss? The schedule! We get to spend a lot more time together now.

Take home note? Be grateful and live life as much as you can, there is no point in worrying.

Do you have advice to give to others who may face life-changing situations? Look for your support system - don't be afraid to ask for help. If you're not healthy or in a happy frame of mind, then you cannot care for someone else.

Where do you see yourself in five years? With a permanent teaching job, married, happy and thinking about starting a family.
